Cubs Place Keegan Thompson on Paternity List, Recall Porter Hodge
Keegan Thomson wasn’t going to be taking over as the regular closer, but now we know he’ll be completely unavailable out of the bullpen for a few days. Thompson got a call shortly after Tuesday’s game that his wife was going into labor and the couple welcomed their son Wednesday morning.

The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Keegan Thompson on the paternity list and recalled right-handed pitcher Porter Hodge.
Hodge, 23, made his debut May 22 against Atlanta and has pitched to 3.60 ERA (2 ER/5.0 IP) in six games with the Cubs this season. In 15 games between Double-A Tennessee (two games) and Triple-A Iowa (13 games), he is 1-1 with a 4.58 ERA (10 ER/19.2 IP) and 28 strikeouts.
Thompson, 29, has appeared in 11 games for the Cubs this season, including two since his most recent recall June 15. He is 1-1 with one save, a 4.30 ERA (7 ER/14.2 IP) and 23 strikeouts, compared to seven walks.
The Cubs host the San Francisco Giants today at 1:20 p.m. CT in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score.
