Jordan Wicks Leaves Start Early Due to Injury
Jordan Wicks started Friday’s game in place of the injured Ben Brown and was looking pretty good through the first five outs he recorded. But after striking out the first two batters of the second inning, Wicks surrendered a single and came up wincing due to what appeared to be a low-back issue. The lefty departed the game with a trainer and immediately headed back to the clubhouse.

This was just Wicks’ second appearance since missing nearly seven weeks with a forearm strain and it now seems likely he’ll be headed back to the IL. There’s never a good time for an injury, but this one is particularly bad since Brown was just diagnosed with a stress reaction in his neck and may have to miss an extended period of time. Maybe this will be something Wicks can bounce back from quickly.
Craig Counsell clarified on the broadcast that it is an oblique issue and they’ll know more once the doctors have a look at it.
