Cubs Activate Seiya Suzuki from IL, Place Dansby Swanson on IL with Right Knee Sprain
Man, this really sucks. Not the Seiya Suzuki part, of course, but the way their primary players keep getting hurt.
The Chicago Cubs today activated outfielder Seiya Suzuki from the 10-day injured list and placed infielder Dansby Swanson on the 10-day injured list (retro to May 8) with a right knee sprain.
Suzuki, 29, was placed on the injured list April 15 with a right oblique strain. In 15 games with the Cubs this season prior to his injured list stint, Suzuki batted .305 (18-for-59) with four doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI, reaching safely in 13 of those games. The right-handed hitting outfielder played in two rehab games with Triple-A Iowa, going 2-for-5 (.400) with a walk and a stolen base.
An Arakawa, Japan native, Suzuki is in his third major league season with the Cubs following eight professional campaigns with Hiroshima in the Japan Central League. In 264 career major league games, the right-handed hitting outfielder is batting .277 (269-for-971) with 57 doubles, eight triples, 37 home runs and 133 RBI.
Swanson, 30, has played in 37 games for the Cubs in 2024, batting .209 (27-for-129) with three doubles, one triple, four home runs and 12 RBI.
The Cubs play the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park today at 5:40 p.m. CT in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 The Score.
