Chicago Cubs Lineup (2/28/20): Bryzzo at Top, Descalso at DH, Chatwood Pitching

The Cubs will be in Peoria tonight to take on the Padres with a solid early lineup that gets a little funky toward the bottom. Kris Bryant leads off at third, followed by Anthony Rizzo at first and Javy Báez at short. Jason Heyward is in right and cleaning up yet again, which is a function of getting plate appearances and not an indication of his spot in the regular season.

Willson Contreras is catching, Jason Kipnis is at second base, Albert Almora Jr. is in center, Daniel Descalso has been designated as a hitter, and Ian Miller is in left. It sounds a little weird to say it, but Miller might have an outside shot at making the roster. His horse is really dark dark, though, and it’d probably require Almora being demoted or someone else hitting the IL.

Tyler Chatwood is starting tonight as he looks to keep stretching out for a spot in the rotation, which he seems to be strengthening his grip on. He said after his last start that he was the best he’s ever been and he feels there’s still a lot of untapped potential as he continues to refine his game. We’ll get more chances to see that as his appearances get more legit throughout the remainder of the Cactus League slate.

Jeremy Jeffress should be the first reliever in the game tonight as he makes his Cubs debut, followed by Brock Stewart, Ryan Tepera, Rex Brothers, and James Norwood. While a few other minor-league pitchers could see action, the reduced number of listed pitchers is further indication that we’re going to start seeing some deeper outings by the starters.

Marquee Sports Network will have the television coverage of the 7:40pm CT start, 670 The Score is on the radio call.
