Watch: Kyle Schwarber Discusses His Return to Chicago
Kyle Schwarber, fresh off his stint with the Iowa Cubs, is back in today’s lineup. While he was down on the farm he made some tweaks to his swing which produced results — albeit over a small sample size — that were more than encouraging. Slashing a robust .343/.477/.714 with four homers over 35 at-bats is a vast improvement when compared to nearly any similar stretch he had playing for Chicago so far this season.
There’s no question the Cubs need a boost of energy from someone or something. And it’s not too hard to imagine a scenario in which Schwarber returns from Iowa and rakes his way further into Cubs folklore. I mean, the story would fit, not to mention it’s about time for something to go very right.
With the grizzled look of a warrior who’s returned to reclaim his homeland, Schwarber gave reporters a few minutes to discuss his thoughts on returning to Chicago and his time in Iowa.
If anything, it’s clear that being in the minors gave Schwarber a chance to press the reset button and clear his head without overthinking things. When asked if there was one thing he concentrated on while in Iowa, Schwarber replied, “It was more just being able to shorten everything down again and just trust everything.”
Sounds simple and it’s easy to sense that getting back to fundamentals is the right path to take.
