Eighteen years ago today Kerry Wood had all Cubs fans on their feet, chanting, jumping for joy, elated. It was a game I’ll never forget and an incredible display of pitching prowess by Wood.
Kerry Wood was a phenom rookie sensation in 1998. That year the Cubs won the division by finishing with a 90-73 record. Kerry Wood won the Rookie of the Year honors. It was an exciting year for the Cubs and Kerry’s 20 strikeout game made it so much more fun. It was Wood’s fifth start of his career. He gave up one hit and no walks in this utterly dominating performance.
