Jake Arrieta Named NL Player of the Week After Throwing His Second Career No-Hitter

Surprise!! Jake Arrieta was named the National League Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 24, 2016. He threw his second career no hitter on Thursday, April 21st and he got just a little help from a sixteen run output by the Cubs’ hitters.

Jake has won the NL Player of the Week award three times and the NL Pitcher of the Month award twice, all in 2015.

So far, in 2016, Jake has been utterly un-hittable. He is 4-0 with a .87 ERA and a .176 BABIP, which is top five in the Majors among pitchers with at least 20 innings. In Jake’s last 16 regular season starts he has a .53 ERA and 2 no-hitters. His last regular season loss was when Cole Hammels no-hit the Cubs on July 25, 2015. He now has 24 consecutive quality starts.

Jake is scheduled to take the mound again for the Cubs this Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Maybe he can toss two no-hitters in a row. You never know with Jake, he never ceases to amaze me.
